Khao Sam Kler is a group of three limestone karsts standing close together in Cheow Lan Lake. Known in English as the Three Brothers, it has become the lake’s most recognisable natural landmark.
The rocks are seen from the boat rather than visited on foot. Most trips slow down here for photographs before continuing farther into the lake.

Khao Sam Kloe is a natural landmark rather than a developed attraction. There is no building, ticket office, restaurant, or walking trail at the formations themselves—the experience is about seeing and photographing them from the lake.
THE STORY BEHIND THE NAME
Why Is It Called Khao Sam Kler?
In Thai, sam kler means “three companions” or “three friends” — a simple reference to the three limestone formations standing together above the water.
There is also a local story connected with the area. According to the tale, a wedding procession once travelled through the old valley before the reservoir existed. Three ceremonial offering trays are said to have become the formations now known as Khao Sam Kler, which is why the rocks are sometimes associated with the name Khao Khan Mak.
The story belongs to local folklore rather than documented history, but it remains part of the way the landscape is remembered and described in the area.
VISITING KHAO SAM KLER
A Short Stop, Not a Separate Excursion
Khao Sam Kler is visited entirely by boat. There is no pier, trail or entrance to the rocks themselves.
Your captain approaches the formations from the main lake and slows or stops the boat at a suitable distance for sightseeing and photographs. How long you stay depends on the itinerary, but the stop itself is usually brief before the journey continues.
Because Khao Sam Kler lies along a commonly used route into Cheow Lan Lake, it can be included naturally in many day trips and overnight journeys rather than requiring a separate excursion.
