Birdwatching in Khao Sok: A Full Day with Morning & Afternoon Birding

Khao Sok National Park is one of Thailand’s most rewarding destinations for birdwatching, and this full-day experience beautifully showcased why the area is considered a paradise for nature lovers.

On this day, we hosted Ivan Sitnikov, a guest staying in Khao Sok, for a Morning & Afternoon Birdwatching tour. The day began early at 6:00 AM, when the forest was alive with birdsong and the soft light of the morning filtered through the rainforest canopy.

Morning Birdwatching: When the Forest Wakes Up

Early morning is the most active time for birds in Khao Sok. As we walked quietly along forest trails and bamboo-lined paths, we encountered a remarkable variety of species.

During the morning session, Ivan successfully photographed several iconic birds of southern Thailand, including:

• White-crowned Hornbill

• Crested Kingfisher

• Blue-winged Leafbird

• Orange-headed Bee-eater

• Red-headed Woodpecker

Each sighting was a reminder of how rich and diverse Khao Sok’s ecosystem truly is.

Afternoon Birding: A Different Rhythm of the Jungle

After a midday break, we returned to the forest for afternoon birdwatching, when the light changes and new species begin to appear. The atmosphere was calmer, but equally rewarding for observation and photography.

In the afternoon, additional species were spotted and photographed, such as:

• Black-and-red Broadbill

• Brown-necked Kingfisher

• Ashy Drongo

• Olive-backed Sunbird

The slower pace of the afternoon allowed time to observe bird behavior, listen to calls, and appreciate the surrounding rainforest in a deeper way.
