Ratchaprapha Dam, initially known as Cheow Lan Dam, was constructed by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT). Construction began in 1982 and was completed in 1987. The dam stands about 94 meters high and stretches approximately 761 meters long. Ratchaprapha Dam plays a crucial role in hydroelectric power generation, irrigation, fisheries, and tourism.
Additionally, the dam supports various tourism activities, such as boating on the lake, staying in floating bungalows, and hiking through nature trails, making it a popular destination for both domestic and international tourists.
