DESCRIPTION : The Rafflesia, (in Thai : bua phut) is the biggest flower in the world! And can be found in Khao Sok! When it blossoms, it measures 80cm in diameter. The flower only lasts 5 days. The flowers grows only when it’s raining during a couple of days. The flower has no roots or leaves of its own. There are many different areas where we can find this flower in the park. If it is the flowering season, we can take you by car to the park, and guide you through the jungle for about 5-10km, in search of these wonderful flowers! About Rafflesia Rafflesia is a parasitic plant with no leaves or roots on its own. It invades the liana vines and like a parasite, it absorbs all the vine's nutrients.Once a year small buds begin to develop beneath the root bark of the vine. As they mature, they swell, breaking through the bark, to the size of a football. They then burst open revealing the massive flower, which can be up to 80 cm. in diameter and is ocra, yellow, chesnut and white in colour. Flies pollinate Bua Phut, attracted by the sweet, slicky smell. A female flower is polinated oly by a male flower, and chances are reduced, not only by its rarity, but also because it only flowers for 3-4 days, then it shrivels and dies. Rafflesia is found in only countries on the Sunda shelf, namely Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. It get its name from Sir Stanford Raffles, who first found specimens of another species in Sabah, East Malaysia. Khao Sok National Park is a treasure trove of biodiversity, home to a fascinating array of wildlife, including the remarkable flying lizards. These unique reptiles, known scientifically as Draco, are a wonder of the animal kingdom, captivating visitors with their extraordinary ability to glide between trees. The Fascinating Flying Lizards: Species: The most commonly encountered flying lizard in Khao Sok is the Draco volans, often referred to as the common flying dragon. These lizards are small, typically around 20-25 centimeters in length, including their long, slender tail. Appearance: Flying lizards have a distinctive appearance, with elongated ribs that support flaps of skin on either side of their body. When extended, these flaps form wing-like structures that allow the lizard to glide. Their coloration usually blends in with the forest, featuring shades of brown, green, and gray, with patterns that provide excellent camouflage. Gliding Ability: Flight Mechanism: Flying lizards don’t truly fly like birds; instead, they glide from tree to tree using their "wings." By spreading their ribs and skin flaps, they can launch themselves from a high point and glide for distances of up to 10 meters or more, steering with their tail and landing with precision on another tree trunk. Behavior: These lizards are diurnal and spend most of their time high in the trees. They are insectivores, feeding primarily on ants, termites, and small insects. They use their gliding ability to move efficiently through the forest in search of food and to escape predators. Habitat and Conservation: Habitat: Flying lizards thrive in the dense, humid rainforests of Khao Sok, where the tall trees and rich biodiversity provide an ideal environment. The forest’s complex structure offers the perfect setting for these lizards to exhibit their gliding skills. Conservation: While flying lizards are not currently considered endangered, their habitat is crucial for their survival. Khao Sok National Park plays a vital role in protecting these unique creatures by preserving the rainforest ecosystem they depend on. An Unforgettable Encounter: Spotting a flying lizard in Khao Sok is a thrilling experience. As you explore the forest, keep an eye on the tree trunks and branches above—if you’re lucky, you might witness one of these fascinating reptiles launching into the air, gliding gracefully to its next perch. Whether you’re trekking through the jungle or enjoying a peaceful boat ride, the chance to see a flying lizard in its natural habitat adds an extra layer of excitement to your visit. Come to Khao Sok National Park and discover the wonders of its flying lizards, where nature’s ingenuity is on full display in one of Thailand’s most beautiful and biodiverse landscapes. Previous Next

The park is home to one of the oldest evergreen rainforests on Earth, estimated to be older than both the Amazon and Congo rainforests. Its remarkable biodiversity, which includes rare plants, unique insects, endangered mammals, and over 300 bird species, places it among the most ecologically valuable natural areas in Southeast Asia. Although Khao Sok is not yet UNESCO-listed, it is part of a larger protected area known as the Khao Sok–Khlong Saeng Wildlife Sanctuary Complex, which has been under consideration for UNESCO nomination. The combination of massive limestone mountains, deep valleys, ancient jungle, and interconnected rivers makes it scientifically significant and culturally important, especially for local communities who rely on the forest for sustainable livelihoods. UNESCO designation requires strict criteria, including global ecological importance, cultural heritage, conservation management, and long-term protection. Khao Sok already meets many of these criteria, but the process is long and requires extensive documentation from the Thai government. Many conservation groups hope that Khao Sok will soon be recognized internationally, as UNESCO status would bring additional protection and global awareness, helping secure the forest’s future for generations. What kind of wildlife lives in Khao Sok? Khao Sok National Park is one of the most wildlife-rich areas in Thailand, offering visitors a rare opportunity to encounter animals in their natural habitat. The park’s ancient rainforest supports hundreds of species, many of which are difficult to see elsewhere in Southeast Asia. Commonly sighted animals include long-tailed macaques, spectacled langurs, crab-eating monkeys, civets, barking deer, and wild boars. One of the park’s highlights is the presence of gibbons, known for their morning songs echoing through the valleys. These intelligent primates swing gracefully through the canopy and are often heard before they are seen. Khao Sok is also a birdwatching paradise, home to hornbills, trogons, kingfishers, and over 300 bird species. The iconic great hornbill and helmeted hornbill are among the park’s most sought-after sightings. Reptiles such as monitor lizards, pythons, and various species of geckos also inhabit the park. Although the area is home to wild elephants, they are rarely seen near tourist areas, as they typically roam deeper inside the protected forest. Night safaris sometimes reveal porcupines, lorises, owls, and other nocturnal creatures. The diversity of wildlife is one of the main reasons visitors come to Khao Sok, and guided tours significantly increase the chances of spotting rare animals while ensuring safety and minimal disturbance to the ecosystem. Is Khao Sok crowded? Khao Sok is generally much less crowded than other major tourist destinations in Southern Thailand such as Phuket, Krabi, or Phang Nga. Even during the high season, the atmosphere remains peaceful because the area is large and visitors spread out between the jungle, river, and Cheow Lan Lake. Weekdays are especially quiet, offering travelers a calm and immersive nature experience. The floating bungalows on the lake also limit the number of guests, which helps maintain the serene environment. If you prefer to avoid crowds and enjoy untouched nature, Khao Sok is one of the best choices in Thailand. What is the village area like? The Khao Sok village area is small, peaceful, and surrounded by lush greenery. It feels like a relaxed jungle town with cozy cafés, family-run restaurants, small shops, and nature-focused accommodations. Everything is within walking distance, making it convenient for travelers to explore. The atmosphere is friendly, slow-paced, and welcoming, unlike busy tourist hubs. Many visitors enjoy staying here before or after their Cheow Lan Lake trip because it offers comfort, local culture, and easy access to activities like bamboo rafting, jungle trekking, and night safaris. It’s the perfect base for nature-loving travelers. Can elderly people visit Khao Sok? Yes, Khao Sok is suitable for elderly travelers. Many activities are gentle, safe, and require minimal physical effort, such as bamboo rafting, lake boat tours, viewpoint sightseeing, and visiting local cafés or scenic spots. Floating bungalows and riverside resorts also offer peaceful environments ideal for relaxation. However, jungle trekking should be chosen carefully depending on mobility and fitness levels. Private tours are highly recommended, allowing pace adjustments and personal assistance. With proper planning and support, elderly visitors can enjoy Khao Sok comfortably and safely, making it an excellent destination for multi-generation family trips. Is Khao Sok safe for beginners? Yes, Khao Sok is very beginner-friendly. Most activities such as bamboo rafting, canoeing, and lake tours require no previous experience. Even jungle trekking is safe for beginners when accompanied by a licensed guide who knows the trails and wildlife behavior. The national park maintains clear paths and enforces safety regulations. Travelers simply need comfortable shoes, hydration, and basic awareness of nature. As long as instructions are followed, beginners can enjoy a smooth and safe adventure. This makes Khao Sok a great option for first-time adventurers or travelers new to nature-based activities. How big is Cheow Lan Lake? Cheow Lan Lake covers around 165 square kilometers, making it one of the largest and most scenic reservoirs in Thailand. The lake features more than one hundred limestone mountains rising dramatically from emerald-green water, creating a landscape often compared to Guilin or Ha Long Bay. The size of the lake means there are many hidden coves, viewpoints, caves, and wildlife areas to explore. Boat tours often take visitors through several zones, each offering unique scenery. Because of its vastness, the lake never feels crowded, allowing travelers to enjoy peaceful nature and stunning panoramic views. Why do travelers love Khao Sok? The variety of activities, beautiful scenery, and friendly local culture make it a favorite destination for all types of travelers. Is the water in Cheow Lan Lake clean? Yes, the water in Cheow Lan Lake is remarkably clean and clear throughout the year. Because the lake is surrounded by protected rainforest and there are no large communities or industries nearby, the water remains unpolluted and naturally filtered. The emerald-green color comes from limestone sediment, which reflects sunlight beautifully. Swimming is allowed in designated safe areas, and many visitors comment on how refreshing and pure the water feels. Resorts and tour operators strictly follow guidelines to maintain cleanliness and protect the lake’s delicate ecosystem. It is one of the cleanest freshwater lakes in Thailand. Can I visit Khao Sok on a one-day trip? Yes, you can visit Khao Sok on a one-day trip from Phuket, Krabi, or Khao Lak, but it will be a long day with limited time to explore. A day trip usually includes bamboo rafting or a short jungle walk. If visiting Cheow Lan Lake, you may spend a few hours on a boat tour. However, staying at least one night allows you to experience the morning mist, wildlife sounds, and the peaceful atmosphere that Khao Sok is known for. Overnight trips, especially floating bungalow stays, provide a far richer and more memorable experience. Is Khao Sok good for photography? Khao Sok is an excellent destination for photography, offering dramatic landscapes, misty mornings, towering limestone cliffs, emerald lakes, wildlife, and dense rainforest scenes. Sunrise and early morning mist on Cheow Lan Lake provide iconic shots, while jungle trekking offers opportunities for wildlife photography. Even simple activities like bamboo rafting create beautiful natural compositions. Photographers love the soft light filtering through the rainforest canopy and the reflections on calm lake water. Whether you're a professional or a hobbyist, Khao Sok delivers endless photographic potential with its rich textures, vibrant colors, and serene atmosphere.

Explore the wildlife of Khao Sok National Park, home to diverse animals, rare species, and lush rainforests. Discover Khao Sok’s rich biodiversity and plan your adventure with Khao Sok Travel. KHAO SOK WILDLIFE Khao Sok National Park is one of the oldest rainforests in the world and is home to hundreds of indigenous animal and plant species Information about Wild Elephants in Khao Sok National Park and the Cheow Lan Lake Area General Characteristics of Wild Elephants: The wild elephants in Khao Sok National Park are Asian elephants (Elephas maximus), a species commonly found in Southeast Asia. These elephants are the largest land mammals in the park, with an average weight of 4,000-5,000 kilograms and a height of up to 3 meters. Wild elephants play a crucial role in the forest ecosystem as they help disperse seeds and create clearings that benefit other plant species. Habitat: Wild elephants in Khao Sok National Park inhabit the lush tropical rainforests and mixed deciduous forests, which are known for their high biodiversity and year-round moisture. These elephants are particularly common in the areas surrounding Cheow Lan Lake, where they are often seen foraging for food and water. During the dry season, when water sources in the upland forests diminish, the elephants tend to migrate to these lower areas near the lake. Behavior and Lifestyle: Wild elephants typically live in herds led by the oldest female elephant, known as the matriarch. The herds move frequently in search of food, which includes grass, leaves, fruits, and bark. Elephants also enjoy bathing and mud-wallowing, which helps them cool down and protect their skin from insects. In the Khao Sok area, these elephants can travel several kilometers each day to find adequate food and water. Sightings in the Cheow Lan Lake Area: The Cheow Lan Lake area in Khao Sok National Park is a prime location for spotting wild elephants. Boat tours on Cheow Lan Lake are popular for wildlife viewing, and it's not uncommon to see elephants coming down to the lake's edge to drink and forage. This provides a unique opportunity for tourists to observe these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. Conservation and Importance: Wild elephants in Khao Sok National Park are ecologically and culturally significant. Conserving these elephants is essential for maintaining the ecological balance and preventing their extinction from threats such as deforestation, agricultural encroachment, and poaching. Sustainable tourism and public education are key strategies in the conservation efforts to protect wild elephants in Khao Sok. Visiting Khao Sok National Park and Cheow Lan Lake not only allows tourists to experience the stunning natural beauty but also offers an opportunity to learn about and support the conservation of wild elephants in their natural environment. TIGER (Panthera Tigris) in Khao Sok National Park Species of Tigers Found in Khao Sok National Park: The primary species of tiger found in Khao Sok National Park is the Bengal tiger (Panthera tigris), which is native to Asia. These tigers are apex predators and play a crucial role in the food chain by controlling the populations of herbivores and smaller animals, thus maintaining the ecological balance. Physical Characteristics: Bengal tigers are known for their distinctive orange-gold fur with black stripes, which are unique to each individual and serve as camouflage in the forest. Male tigers are generally larger than females, with an average weight of about 200-300 kilograms, while females typically weigh around 100-160 kilograms. Habitat: In Khao Sok National Park, Bengal tigers inhabit tropical rainforests and montane forests, which are rich in biodiversity and home to many prey species, such as deer, wild boar, and smaller mammals. Tigers prefer areas with abundant water sources and dense vegetation, which provide both sustenance and protection. Behavior and Hunting: Tigers are primarily nocturnal hunters, relying on stealth and camouflage to stalk their prey before launching a powerful and swift attack. They are capable of taking down prey much larger than themselves and can travel several kilometers in a single night in search of food. Conservation Status: Bengal tigers are classified as Endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) due to habitat loss, poaching, and human-wildlife conflict. Conservation efforts in Khao Sok National Park are vital to protect these tigers, involving collaboration between conservation organizations and park authorities to prevent poaching and preserve their natural habitat. Tiger Sightings in the Park: While Bengal tigers are rare and elusive, there have been occasional sightings in the deeper, less accessible parts of Khao Sok National Park. Such sightings are positive indicators of the park's ecological health and the presence of a balanced ecosystem. Cultural Significance: In some local cultures, tigers are revered as powerful and sacred animals. Seeing or encountering tiger tracks in the forest is often viewed as a sign of good fortune or a reminder to respect and live harmoniously with nature. Visiting Khao Sok National Park not only offers the opportunity to experience its stunning natural beauty but also allows tourists to learn about and support the conservation of Bengal tigers and other wildlife species that are vital to the region's ecological balance. Bears in Khao Sok National Park and Cheow Lan Lake Species of Bears Found in Khao Sok National Park: The bear species found in Khao Sok National Park and around Cheow Lan Lake is the Malayan Sun Bear (Helarctos malayanus), the smallest bear species in the world. Native to Southeast Asia, these bears inhabit dense tropical rainforests. The Malayan Sun Bear is relatively shy and seldom seen by humans, making it a rare sight. Physical Characteristics: Malayan Sun Bears are small compared to other bear species, with an average weight of 25-65 kilograms and a body length of 120-150 centimeters. They have short, dark black fur, which helps protect them from the intense tropical heat. A distinctive orange or light brown "U"-shaped marking on their chest sets them apart from other bears. Their long, curved claws allow them to climb trees skillfully, a behavior they frequently engage in to forage and seek refuge. Habitat and Distribution: Malayan Sun Bears are found in tropical rainforests, montane forests, and dense vegetation in Khao Sok National Park and around Cheow Lan Lake. These areas are rich in natural resources like fruits, nectar, and insects, which are the primary food sources for these bears. The tall forests also provide protection from natural predators and disturbances, making them ideal habitats. Behavior and Diet: Malayan Sun Bears are nocturnal animals, primarily active at night. They often climb trees to forage for food such as ripe fruits, nectar from flowers, insects, honey, and small animals. Their strong canine teeth enable them to pierce through hard tree bark and open honeycombs to feed on nectar and bee larvae. Climbing trees not only helps them access a variety of food sources but also allows them to avoid encounters with predators and humans. Conservation Status: The Malayan Sun Bear is classified as Vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) due to habitat loss from deforestation, agricultural expansion, and illegal hunting for their body parts, which are used in traditional medicine. Conservation of the Malayan Sun Bear in Khao Sok National Park is crucial. Collaborative efforts between government agencies, conservation organizations, and local communities are essential to protecting the bear population in this area. Bear Sightings in the Cheow Lan Lake Area: Although Malayan Sun Bears are rare and rarely seen in public areas, tourists on boat tours in Cheow Lan Lake may occasionally spot them foraging along the lake's edge, especially during times when fruit is abundant. Seeing a Malayan Sun Bear in the wild is a positive sign of the area's ecological richness. Cultural Significance and Local Beliefs: In some local cultures, the Malayan Sun Bear symbolizes resilience and strength. Some villagers believe that encountering a Sun Bear in the forest is a sign of good fortune and view the bear as a guardian of the forest, helping to maintain the balance of nature. These beliefs promote the conservation of the Malayan Sun Bear in local communities and foster respect for nature and wildlife. Visiting Khao Sok National Park and Cheow Lan Lake offers not only the chance to experience the stunning natural beauty but also an opportunity to learn about and support the conservation of Malayan Sun Bears and other wildlife species that are crucial to maintaining the balance of nature. Clouded Leopards in Khao Sok National Park General Characteristics: The clouded leopard is a medium-sized predator known for its distinctive coat pattern. Its fur is light brown to gray with cloud-like markings that give the species its name. These markings are dark or black and run across the body. The clouded leopard has a relatively small head compared to its body and possesses the longest canines relative to its body size among all wild cats. The tail is nearly as long as the body, aiding in balance while climbing trees. The body length of a clouded leopard ranges from about 60-110 centimeters, with a weight of 11-23 kilograms, making it the smallest of the big cat species. Habitat: In Khao Sok National Park, clouded leopards inhabit dense tropical rainforests and montane forests, which are rich in biodiversity. These leopards prefer areas with tall trees that provide shelter and a vantage point to avoid danger. The clouded leopard is highly adapted to life in trees, where it can find prey and evade predators. Behavior and Hunting: Clouded leopards are nocturnal animals and spend most of their time in trees. They are the most skilled climbers among the big cats, capable of climbing up and down trees with ease and even descending headfirst. Their primary diet includes small to medium-sized animals such as birds, rodents, monkeys, and other forest-dwelling creatures. These leopards have a unique hunting style, capable of hunting both on the ground and in trees. They use stealth and agility to approach their prey unnoticed before launching a quick and powerful attack. Their exceptional jumping ability also allows them to catch prey in trees efficiently. Conservation Status: The clouded leopard is listed as Vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The main threats to their survival include habitat loss due to deforestation, agricultural expansion, and illegal hunting for their pelts and body parts. Conservation efforts in Khao Sok National Park are crucial to protect the clouded leopard. These efforts involve collaboration between conservation organizations, park authorities, and local communities to safeguard the leopards from these threats. Sightings in Khao Sok National Park: Although clouded leopards are elusive and rarely seen by humans, there have been occasional sightings, especially in well-preserved areas deep within the forest. Spotting a clouded leopard in the wild is a positive indicator of the area's ecological richness. Tourists visiting Khao Sok National Park might encounter signs of clouded leopards, such as tracks or claw marks on trees. Cultural Significance and Local Beliefs: In some local cultures, the clouded leopard is seen as a symbol of mystery and power. Sightings of clouded leopards or their tracks in the forest are often considered a sign of good fortune or a reminder to respect nature and wildlife. These beliefs help promote the conservation of clouded leopards in local communities and foster a sense of respect for the natural world. Visiting Khao Sok National Park offers not only the chance to experience its stunning natural beauty but also the opportunity to learn about and support the conservation of clouded leopards, which play a crucial role in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem. Gibbons in Khao Sok National Park and Cheow Lan Lake Species of Gibbons Found in Khao Sok National Park: The primary species of gibbons found in Khao Sok National Park and around Cheow Lan Lake is the White-handed Gibbon (Hylobates lar). This species is known for its loud, melodic calls, which resonate through the forest, marking their territory and communicating with family members. Gibbons are small apes, highly adapted to life in the trees, and are known for their incredible agility and brachiation, swinging from tree to tree with ease. Physical Characteristics: White-handed Gibbons are named for the contrasting white fur on their hands and feet, which stands out against the rest of their body, which can range in color from light brown to black. They typically weigh between 4.5 to 7 kilograms and have a body length of about 40 to 60 centimeters. Their arms are significantly longer than their legs, which is an adaptation for their arboreal lifestyle, allowing them to swing between branches effortlessly. Habitat: In Khao Sok National Park, gibbons inhabit dense tropical rainforests, where the canopy provides ample food sources and protection from predators. They are typically found in the upper layers of the forest, rarely descending to the ground. The forests around Cheow Lan Lake also offer suitable habitats for these primates, with plenty of fruit-bearing trees and tall, connected canopies that facilitate their movement and foraging. Behavior and Social Structure: Gibbons are diurnal, meaning they are active during the day. They live in small, stable family groups typically consisting of a monogamous pair and their offspring. Gibbons are known for their strong pair bonds, and the family unit is very close-knit, often seen grooming each other and playing together. Their loud, whooping calls can be heard early in the morning, as they sing to announce their presence and defend their territory from other gibbon families. These calls are one of the most iconic sounds of the rainforest and can travel over long distances, making them a defining feature of the auditory landscape in Khao Sok National Park. Diet: Gibbons are primarily frugivorous, meaning that they mainly eat fruit. However, their diet is quite varied and also includes leaves, flowers, and insects. The availability of food in the canopy is one of the reasons gibbons prefer the upper levels of the forest, where they can find a diverse range of fruits throughout the year. Their diet and foraging behavior also play a significant role in seed dispersal, contributing to the health and regeneration of the forest ecosystem. Conservation Status: The White-handed Gibbon is classified as Endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The main threats to gibbons in Khao Sok and elsewhere include habitat loss due to deforestation, illegal logging, and land conversion for agriculture. Additionally, gibbons are sometimes captured for the illegal pet trade, which further threatens their populations. Efforts to conserve gibbons in Khao Sok National Park include protecting their natural habitat through park regulations, monitoring gibbon populations, and raising awareness among local communities and tourists about the importance of preserving these unique primates. Gibbon Sightings in Khao Sok and Cheow Lan Lake: Visitors to Khao Sok National Park and Cheow Lan Lake often have the opportunity to see and hear gibbons, especially in the early morning hours when their calls are most frequent. Guided tours often include stops where gibbon sightings are common, and with a bit of luck, visitors can observe these fascinating creatures in their natural habitat. Gibbons are most easily spotted when they are moving through the treetops, their long arms swinging from branch to branch in graceful arcs. Their loud calls often give away their location, even before they are seen, adding an enchanting experience to any trek or boat ride through the park. Cultural Significance and Local Beliefs: In some local cultures, gibbons are considered symbols of the forest's vitality and are seen as indicators of a healthy ecosystem. Their presence in an area is often associated with the well-being of the environment, and they are respected as an integral part of the natural world. Visiting Khao Sok National Park and Cheow Lan Lake provides an opportunity not only to experience the beauty of these pristine environments but also to learn about and support the conservation of gibbons, whose presence is crucial to the health of the rainforest ecosystem.

WATERFALL Mae Yai Waterfall A charming 30-meter-high roadside waterfall in Khao Sok National Park, easily accessible year-round. Perfect for a quick stop to enjoy cool waters, lush greenery, and refreshing forest air — especially beautiful from October to December. Photo by Matee Srikeaw Traveling along Highway 401, the main route linking Surat Thani to Phang Nga, the scenery gradually transforms into a world of towering mountains and misty horizons. At kilometer 113, all it takes is a gentle press on the brakes and a glance to the side, and you’ll discover one of Khao Sok National Park’s small yet precious treasures — Mae Yai Waterfall . A Roadside Beauty Worth Stopping For Mae Yai Waterfall may not rival the grandeur of Thailand’s famous cascades, but it stands out for its simplicity and easy accessibility. Just park by the roadside and walk a few dozen steps — the sound of water tumbling over rock greets you like a welcome from the forest. Crystal-clear water spills down a cliff about 30 meters high, breaking into white foam among lush green foliage. Cool Waters and Seasonal Colors Water flows here year-round, but from October to December, after the rainy season, the waterfall swells with fresh energy. The damp rock face glistens with vivid green moss, while the surrounding forest begins to shift in color — a living postcard framed by the harmony of water and woodland. A Rest Stop That Refreshes More Than the Eyes Thanks to its roadside location, Mae Yai Waterfall is a perfect spot to pause between adventures. Many visitors stop to take photos, breathe in the cool air, or relax beside the stream before heading on to Khao Sok’s larger attractions, such as bamboo rafting along the Sok River, trekking in the rainforest, or exploring Ratchaprapha Dam. https://video.wixstatic.com/video/a94972_da7025d8d7d64d3c99e5db9b4df2a3c9/1080p/mp4/file.mp4 Mae Yai Waterfall – The Hidden Charm Along the Khao Sok Highway Nature Within Everyone’s Reach One of the waterfall’s greatest charms is that it’s accessible to all ages. The geological conditions, high rainfall, and limestone karst formations have contributed to the emergence distinctive forest types and unique plant species. FORESTS AND PLANTS WILD MUSHROOMS Khao Sok National Park Everywhere we walk, mushrooms can be found As you make your way into Khao Sok National Park you will become immersed in one of the world’s oldest jungles. The geological conditions, high rainfall, and limestone karst formations have contributed to the emergence distinctive forest types and unique plant species. Giant thickets of bamboo, massive buttress roots, dipterocarp trees with propeller seeds that perform beautiful spinning descents from the canopy, the massive Rafflesia flower and a variety of wild mushroom await. Mushrooms are Everywhere Cookeina sulcipes These colorful mushrooms, like many colorful fungus types, can typically be found in tropical and subtropical areas. They are small and tend to grow in clusters. Cookeina sulcipes also plays an important role, as it helps to speed up the decay of dead trees and stumps. After a good rain, colorful caps pop up through the grass. On dead stumps, orange-red clumps overtake the bark. Under the leaves, colorful caps push them aside.
