Khao Sam Kler: The Three Brothers of Cheow Lan Lake

Few sights are as closely associated with Cheow Lan Lake as Khao Sam Kler, often called the Three Brothers. These limestone formations rise from the water in a small group, creating one of the lake’s most recognisable silhouettes. They are a familiar stopping point on scenic longtail-boat journeys and an introduction to the remarkable karst landscape that surrounds the reservoir.

Seen from the boat, the formations appear almost separate from the mountains behind them. Their shape changes with the angle of approach, the light and the reflections on the water. It is a place to slow down, take photographs and appreciate the scale of the landscape rather than a destination requiring a trek or an extended visit on land.

This 3D perspective places the landmark within the wider lake setting. It also helps explain why a journey from Ratchaprapha Pier is about more than travelling between two points: the route itself passes islands, steep slopes and narrow passages. For travellers staying overnight, the Three Brothers may be one stop among several before continuing to a floating resort.

The illustration is a visual guide to the landmark and its surroundings, not a precise chart for navigation. Your boat guide will determine the appropriate approach and stopping point on the day.
