The Main Lake: A Landscape Shaped by Water and Stone

One of the most striking things about Cheow Lan Lake is the way water enters former valleys between steep forested ridges. From a high viewpoint, the reservoir seems to have many separate arms, islands and sheltered inlets. From a boat, those same features become an ever-changing sequence of narrow passages, open bays and limestone walls.

This cutaway-style terrain illustration is intended to make that relationship easier to see. It places the main lake within the surrounding mountains and identifies familiar landmarks such as Khao Sam Kler and Pakarang Cave. The image is conceptual rather than a measured topographic model, so it should be read as an introduction to the landscape, not as a source of precise elevation or distance.

Understanding the shape of the reservoir can improve a trip plan. A visit to one attraction may require only a short stop from the boat, while another involves walking, a bamboo raft or additional travel into a separate branch. Our Khao Sok map and travel guide explains how these routes connect to Ratchaprapha Pier.

Area figures printed on the artwork, including forest and water totals in rai, have not been independently verified. They should not be quoted as confirmed measurements.
