The Forest and the Lake: Two Sides of Khao Sok

Khao Sok National Park is often imagined as one continuous visitor destination, yet travelling through it involves two quite different experiences. Around Khao Sok Village, visitors explore rainforest trails, rivers and the national park headquarters area. Farther east, Cheow Lan Lake opens into a broad network of waterways surrounded by forested mountains.

This overview brings those landscapes together. From above, the water appears to weave through the hills rather than forming a simple oval lake. That shape is important: it influences how boats travel, where floating accommodation can be located and why some destinations require more time than their straight-line distance suggests.

The main gateway to the lake is Ratchaprapha Pier. Reaching the pier from the village involves a separate road journey; there is no visitor road cutting directly through the protected forest between the two gateways. Once at the pier, the route continues by boat. Our regional rainforest-to-lake map shows this connection in more detail.

The boundary shown on this artwork is illustrative and should not be interpreted as an official national-park boundary or land survey. Its purpose is to communicate the relationship between forest, terrain and lake.
